Theatre Beyond Walls with Paul Thompson (45 mins) Canada 7.30pm Saturday Oct 14th
Director: Rachel Thompson
This documentary tells the incredible story of a man, Paul Thompson, and a theatre company that provoked a cultural movement in 1970’s Canada. It took alternative theatre companies like Toronto’s Theatre Passe Muraille, that came out of Rochdale College, to break down walls set up by British style theatre companies. The film documents the revolutionary decade of Thompson’s unique style of collectively created plays, featuring such famous productions of “The Farm Show” (1972) and “I Love You Baby Blue” (1975). The films shows how theatre can help reshape a country, one play at a time.
