The COMMFFEST MADA (Making A Difference) Award is a signature recognition presented by the COMMFFEST Global Community Film & Arts Festival to honour individuals whose creative work, leadership, or community service contributes to positive social change and community enrichment.
Established as part of COMMFFEST’s commitment to “Bringing Communities Together for Social Empowerment,” the MADA Award recognizes people who use their talents, voices, professions, and influence to make a meaningful difference in society.
Originally created to recognize filmmakers and artists, the award has expanded to honour community leaders, activists, educators, cultural leaders, musicians, public figures, and other individuals whose work demonstrates an ongoing commitment to serving and strengthening communities.
The MADA Award celebrates:
COMMFFEST currently identifies Best Film or Project and Honourable Mention among its MADA recognition categories.
The award has also recognized distinguished contributions beyond filmmaking. For example, Canadian artists Jackie Richardson and Joe Sealy received COMMFFEST MADA Awards for Lifetime Achievement in Music, demonstrating the award's broader recognition of cultural achievement and community contribution.
At its core, the MADA Award recognizes that making a difference is not defined by fame, age, profession, or status, but by impact.
